Explanation:

y = 2x -1 → (1)

y = 4x + 7 → (2)

substitute y = 4x + 7 into (1)

4x + 7 = 2x - 1 ( subtract 2x from both sides )

2x + 7 = - 1 ( subtract 7 from both sides )

2x = - 8 ( divide both sides by 2 )

x = - 4

substitute x = - 4 into either of the 2 equations and solve for y

substituting into (1)

y = 2(- 4) 1 = - 8 - 1 = - 9

solution is (- 4, - 9 )
