Answer:

A: x = - 3

Explanation:

On the left hand side we see four -x's and nine -1's

Therefore the LHS computes to 4(-x) + 9(1)
4(-x) + 9(1) = -4x + 9

On the RHS there are eight -x's and 3 -1's
RHS becomes
-8x - 3

Setting LHS = RHS gives
-4x + 9 = -8x - 3

Add 8x on both sides:
8x - 4x + 9 = 8x - 8x -3

==> 4x + 9 = -3

Subtract 9 from both sides
4x +9 - 9 = -9 - 3

4x = -12

x = -3
