Answer: 1 1/10

In order to do this we are going to add the fractions which I will put like this: numerator/denominator

Our equation is going to look like:

3/5 + 2/4 = ?

We can’t add these together until we find the LCD for both fractions

The LCD of 5 and 4 is 20 since the smallest number both of the fractions can be multiplied to equal the same number is (4 x 5 = 20)

Now, multiply the top and bottom parts of the fractions like this

3(4)/5(4) + 2(5)/4(5)

= 12/20 + 10/20

Add

=22/20

Now we simplify this fraction

11/10 this into a mixed number is 1 1/10

Emilia needs 1 1/10 cups of sugar in total
