ammonia is a polar molecule.

N has a negative charge making the top of the molecule partially negative

H has a positive charge making the bottom of the molecule partially positive

since each end of the molecule is different it means that the molecule is polar, if the molecule was symmetric and the positive charges were evenly spread around the negative charge it would be non polar
