Explanation:

(-y + 3) + (2y - 4) = (ny - 1)

-y + 3 + 2y - 4 = ny - 1

-y + 2y + 3 - 4 = ny - 1 -> combine like terms on the left side of the equation

y - 1 = ny - 1 ==> simplify

y - 1 + 1 = ny - 1 + 1

y = ny ==> solve for n

y/y = ny/y

1 = n ==> n=1
