Parallel Lines

Slope-intercept form:
y=mx+b

  • m = slope
  • b = y-intercept

Parallel lines always have the same slopes and different y-intercepts.

Solving the Question

We're given:

  • Parallel to
    y=-3x+2
  • Passes through (-1,3)

Because parallel lines have the same slopes, this line therefore has a slope of -3.

y=-3x+b

Now, plug in the given point to solve for b:

3=-3(-1)+b\\3=3+b\\b=0

Therefore:

y=-3x

Answer

y=-3x
