Answer:

- 1

Explanation:

( x + 4 )² + 38 = 47

( x + 4 )² = 47 - 38

( x + 4 )² = 9

( x + 4 )² = 3²

Square root on both sides,

x + 4 = 3

x = 3 - 4

x = - 1
