The independent variable would be the one that could stand alone. So which one makes more sense? The amount of trips depends on how many buckets there are or the amount of buckets depends on the amount of trips?

Since the amount of trips DEPENDS on the amount of buckets... the amount of trips is the dependent and the buckets is the independent. so since there are 2 buckets carried up to hill for 1 trip, the first row on the table should look like this

2 1 (2,1)

So how many buckets would be on the hill after the second trip?

Well there are 2 more and 2 + 2 is 4. 2 trips = 4 buckets. So the next row would look like this

4. 2. (4,2)

Then u just keep going. Hint: Independent variable is counting by twos and dependent variable is counting by one's.

Then you graph the ordered pairs.
