Answer:

Children 109

Adults 329

Explanation:

Let a = adults

Let c = children

a + c = 438 or a= 438 - c

2.50a + 1.75c = 1013.25 Substitute in 438 - c for a

2.50(438 - c) + 1.75c = 1013.25 Distribute the 2.50

1095 - 2.50c + 1.75c = 1013.25 Combine like terms

1095 - .75c = 1013.25 Subtract 1095 from both sides

-.75 = -81.75 Divide both sides by -.75

c = 109 There are 109 children

Plug this back into a = 438 - c to find the number of adults

a = 438 - 109

a = 329 There are 329 adults.
