Radioactive decay accounts for about half of the Earth's internal heat. Due to their enrichment compared with other radioactive isotopes, four radioactive isotopes mainly contribute to radiogenic heat: uranium-238 (238U), uranium-235 (235U), thorium-232 (232Th), and potassium-40 (40K).
