No, energy is not created during an exothermic reaction. The law of conservation of energy tells us that energy can neither be created no destroyed, however; it can be transferred. In an exothermic reaction energy is transferred to the environment by being released in the form of heat. While heat is the most common way exothermic reactions release energy, it is possible for energy to also be released in the form of light or sound in an exothermic reaction
