Answer: x=9, excluded value x≠5

Explanation:

1. add 3 to both sides -> 16/x-5 = 4

2. then multiply both sides by x-5 -> 16=4(x-5) -> 16=4x-20

3. add 20 to both sides -> 36=4x

4. divide both sides by 4 to solve for x -> 9=x

the excluded value is whatever would make the denominator of the fraction equal to 0. You can't divide by 0. Therefore in this case, x can't equal 5 because 5-5=0
