Answer: I think what the scripture is saying is that after the first sin was comitted, crime, more sin, and a lot of not so good things happened. But all the bad stuff that happens because of humans is only because of our flesh. Our flesh or skin on the outside is what likes sin. Therefore when the first sin happened the whole world was affected. Then it was everywhere acts that only the flesh wants to comitt was everywhere. But it also still out there walking around free until Jesus comes. The world became almost nothing but what our flesh wants and its almost everywhere so it lives among us too.
