We can use the pythagorean theorem.


a^2+b^2=c^2


c^2-b^2=a^2


a^2 = leg


b^2=leg


c^2=hypotenuse

45 is the hypotenuse length

One of the legs is 18 inches


45^2-18^2=a^2


45^2=45*45=2025


18^2=18*18= 324

2025 - 324 =
1701


√(1701) rounded to the nearest hundredth ≈ 41.24
