4. The United States launches a military campaign in Vietnam against the Vietcong, a communist military backed by the Soviet Union.

1. The Soviet Union launches the Warsaw Pact in 1955, a military alliance between communist nations to counteract NATO.

2. The Soviet Union blocks West Berlin, with the goal of having it delivered to its power by the United States.

3. The Soviet Union puts nuclear warheads in Cuba, starting the Cuba Missile Crisis.

4. The Soviet Union finances communist guerrilla groups all over Latin America, very close to American territory.
