A car travels at a constant speed of 20m/s.

Work out the time it takes for the car to travel 10km. Give your answer in minutes and seconds.

Let's convert either m/s to km/s, or km to meters.

I'll convert km to meters and solve.

8 minutes and 20 seconds

There are 1,000 meters/kilometer. We can write that as a conversion factor: (1000m/km)

(10km)(1000m/km) = 10,000 meters

At 20m/s, we see that: (10,000m)/(20 m/s) = 500 seconds

(1 minute/60 seconds)

(500s)*(1m/60s) = 8 1/3 minutes, or 8 minutes and 20 seconds
