The answer is: " 12.5 % " .

Explanation:

$450 − $400 = $50 ;

$50 is what percent of 400?

50 = (
(n)/(100)) *
(400)/(1) ;

The 400 can be reduced to 4 ;

and the 100 can be reduced to 1 ;

since: [400 ÷ 100 = 4 ] ;

and: [100 ÷ 100 = 1 ] ;

We can rewrite:

50 = n * 4 ; n * 4 = 50 ; ↔ 4 * n = 50 ; 4n = 50 ;

Now, divide Each Side of the equation by 4 ; to isolation n on one side of the equation; & to solve for n ; as follows:
4n / 4 = 50/ 4 ;

n =
(50)/(4) = ((50/2))/((4/2)) =
(25)/(2) = 12.5 ;

The answer is: " 12.5 % " .
