The Declaration of Independence talked about life, liberty, and that all people are created equal. Some people said that because of this, slavery should end. It outlawed slavery in the Northwest Territory. The declaration of Independence raised questions of how to achieve the ideals of American democracy in light of the economic need of southern states for slavery. ... If so slavery needed to be outlawed. If the slave was property then they should not be consider even three fifths of a person for representation in Congress.

In view of southern states' financial need for slavery, the Declaration of Independence expressed questions about how to accomplish the goals of American democracy. If this was the case, slavery would have to be ended.

If this was the case, slavery would have to be abolished. Slavery had to be abolished if that was the case. Slaves should not be considered even three-fifths of an individual for representation in Congress if they were land.
