Osiris is considered both the god of fertility and the embodiment of death. The process of judging the dead in Ancient Egyptian mythology was known to be based on the weighing of the heart on a scale with a feather on the other side (see figure 1). If ones heart weighed more then the feather, they were considered more wicked than good, and thus were sent to be eaten by Ammit/Ammut (see figure 2) and erased from existence.
