For example, when the sun shines on earth (which, the sun shines white light, which is made of all colors), lets say it reflects off of an apple tree in a field. The tree's leaves will reflect green light because of the chloraphyll inside its cells. However, if the light reflects off of one of the apples on the tree, red light is seen because of the nutrients inside of the skin of the apple. In art, color is very important, so people have found ways to use paint (which is in all colors) to essentially mimic the effect that light has on the real world.
