A watch, after allowing a discount of 15% on its marked price, was sold at a gain of 20%. Had it been sold after allowing 25% discount there would have been gain of Rs. 120. Find the cost price of the watch.​

Consider the cost price to be x.

1st equation x - (15/100)x = x + (20/100) ...15% discount and gain of 20%

2nd equationx - (25/100)x = x + 120 ....25% discount and a gain of 120Rs

Solving above equations by subtracting we get

(10/100)x = (20/100)x - 120

Solving LHS and RHS..(10/100)x =120

x=1200
