Function A is represented by the equation y=2 x+5

Function B is a linear function that goes through the points shown in the table.
Which statement correctly compares the rates of change of the two functions?

Answer:

The rate of change is the same for both A and B (2)

Explanation:

In the equation, the rate of change is shown as the coefficient of the variable x. That is the number before the x which is 2.

In the table you find the rate of change as the change in y over the change in x. In the table the y's are increasing by 4 (3- -1), 2 (5-3) and 4 (9-5). The x's are increasing by 2 (3-1), 1 (4-3) and 2 (6-4).

If I take the change in y over the change in x, I will get 4/2 = 2, 2/1 = 2 or 4/2 = 2

From the table the rate of change is also 2.
