volume of rectangular prism:
length*width*height
length: x+1
width: x-2
height: x+1
a) V= (x+1)(x-2)(x+1)
= (x²-2x+x-2)(x+1)
= (x²-x-2)+(x+1)
= (x³+x²-x²-x-2x-2)
= x³-3x-2
b) if x= 5,
V= 5³-3(5)-2
= 125-15-2
= 108cm³
