Of the 25 people on the Houston Astros, 22 bat right-handed and 8 bat left-handed. How many members of the team are switch-hitters (can bat both left-handed and right-handed)?

Answer:

5 people hit from both sides of the plate.

Explanation:

The total of RHB and LHB is 8 + 22 = 30.

But the total number of people in the line up is 25. That means that 30 - 25 = 5

So 5 people have been counted twice because they are switch-hitters (they are both left and right handed).

They should only be counted once.
