Explanation:

Subtract like terms. But first, there is a negative in front of the parenthesis of (-6x+2), use the distributive property.

-(6x+2), multiply each number inside of the parenthesis by -1:

-1 * -6x + -1 * 2

6x - 2

Now remove the parenthesis and add (or subtract) like terms.

-8x + 5 + 6x - 2

-8x + 6x = -2x

5 - 2 = 3

-2x + 3
