The distributive property states: a(b+c) = ab+ac. Essentially, the whole expression b+c is being multiplied by a, hence why everything inside is being multiplied.

In this case, given 3(-3a+4), -4a+4 are all being multiplied because they are inside the parenthesis. 3 is multiplying-3a+4. So, let’s expand:

3(-3a+4)

3(-3a)+3(4)

-9a+12 is the simplified expression using the distributive property.
