Help me please ...........with this work

I'm trying my best to figure out how to do this so if someone can help me with the right answer please help me

Rewrite y = x2 + 2x - 1 into vertex form.
y=(x+1)2−2 Use x = - b\2a to find the vertex (h, k).

Substitute a, h, and k into y = a(x - h)2 + k:
2a(x-h)+k 2ax-2ah+k

Explanation:

I'm not sure about the substitution part.
