First find the inverse of the function f(x) ....

f^( - 1) (x)

For the inverse you swap the x abd y coordinates and make y the subject of the Equation again.

x = 4y - 3 \\ 4y = x + 3 \\ (4y)/(4) = (x)/(4) + (3)/(4) \\ f^( - 1)(x) = (x)/(4) + (3)/(4)

For

{f}^( - 1) (5)

In the place of x in the equation

f ^( - 1) (x)

Plug in 5 and simplify.

f ^( - 1) (5) = (5)/(4) + (3)/(4) \\ f ^( - 1) (5) = (8)/(4) \\ f ^( - 1) (5) = 2
