Foliation occurs when minerals are flattened by heat and pressure. this results in a layered or banded texture. What type of rock do you think is foliated?

Foliated Metamorphic Rocks:
Some kinds of metamorphic rocks -- granite gneiss and biotite schist are two examples -- are strongly banded or foliated. (Foliated means the parallel arrangement of certain mineral grains that gives the rock a striped appearance.)

Visible silicate minerals split into dark and light bands or lineations in a metamorphic foliation known as gneissic banding. Typically coarse and frequently folded, these grains. Gneiss is the name for a rock with this texture.
