Answer:

How did the American Civil War end, and when did it end?

It was widely believed to have come to an end on April 9, 1865, at Appomattox Court House in Virginia, when General Lee handed over the last of his Army of Northern Virginia to General Grant.

Other Confederate Generals realized the war was essentially over with the surrender of that main Confederate force and turned in their commands in the days and weeks that followed.

On June 23, the Confederate allied Cherokee Brigadier General Stand Watie and his Indian soldiers became the last significant active Confederate force to submit. The Confederate warship CSS Shenandoah gave up on November 6, 1865, in Liverpool, England, marking the last Confederate capitulation.

Thanks,
Eddie
