The sum of two consecutive odd number is 288. Find the numbers.

Answer: 143, 145

Step-by-step explanation: Odd consecutive numbers are numbers like 1,3 or 5,7. To get to another odd consecutive number you add too. For example, 1 and 3 are odd consecutive numbers, so to get from 1 to 3 you add 2. (The same thing applies for any other odd/even consecutive)


1. we don't know the numbers so we can call it n. For the other consecutive, we can do n+2.


2. Use this to make an equation. n+n+2=288


3. Simplify. 2n+2=288


3. Subtract 2 to both sides then divide. 2n=286. Divide 2 to both sides to get that n=143.


3. Since they're odd consecutive numbers, you add 2 to get to the next odd number which is 145.
