The central government created under the Articles of Confederation had no

power to collect taxes. How did this affect the new country?

Since there was no way of collecting taxes, the new country did not have a way of paying its soldiers who just earned us our independence in the Revolutionary War. This led to a rebellion (Shay's Rebellion) which almost tore our newly formed union apart.
