Answer: m = - 3
Step -by - step
-40 -2 (3m + 1/2 ) = 7m -2
Apply the distributive property.
-40 -2(3m) -2(1/2) = 7m -2
-40 -6m -1 = 7m -2
-6m -41 = 7m -2
-13m -41 = -2
-13m = 39
Divide each term in -13m = 39 by -13
m = 39/-13
m = -3
