multiply 2x+y=8 by 6
Causing it to become 12x+6y=48
Now then use it to subtract 6y out of the equation
- 4x+6y- 12x- 6y=24- 48
- 16x=- 24
X=1.5

Since x =1.5
Substitude it into 2x+y=8
2( 1.5) +y=8
3+y=8
y=8- 3
y=5

5. Answer: x= 1.5
y= 5

Explanation:
1.) -4x+6y=24
2(2x+y=8) ----> multiply either one of the variables (I chose x) to cancel out the x in the first equation.
2.) -4x+6y=24
4x+2y=16 -----> -4x+4x= 0x --- 6y+2y=8y ----- 24+16=40
3.) New Equation: 8y=40
4.) 40/8 equals 5 so y=5.
5.) Plug in 5 for y in which ever equation you choose (I chose 2x+y=8)
2x+5=8. 8-5 = 3.
6.) New Equation: 2x=3. 3/2 = 1.5

x=1.5 and y = 5. Plug in t equation if you want to check.
