Explanation:

m_1=-m_2).

The slope of y=x+1 is 1, therefore the slope of the perpendicular line must be -1.

Given (x,y)=(-2,8) the equation of the perpendicular line can be obtained by substituting these values into the slope-intercept form y=mx+b.

8=(-1)(-2)+b

8=2+b

6=b

So, the perpendicular line has a slope-intercept form of y=-x+6 or y=6-x.
