Chapter 4 Understanding informational Text

Physical Change
A physical change happens when matter changes from one form to another
One of the most noticeable physical changes is a change in state. Let's looks
the following example to see what causes this physical change.
An ice cube is very cold. It is so cold that the liquid water has frozen into a
solid. A soft drink is not as cold as your ice cube. It is in liquid form. Since soft
drink is warmer than the ice cube, the solid ice begins to melt. As it melts, the
solid ice cubes get smaller. This is a physical change. The water in the ice cube
does not turn into anything else, like potato chips or marbles. It is still water.
but it is in a different physical state. Eventually, all the solid ice melts. It is now
liquid instead of solid.
Anice cube melts
in your drink.
