t * (o)/(a)

For tan

and for cot


t * (a)/(o)

o (opposite) = side opposite angle A

a (adjacent) = side between angle A and B [90° segment]

o = 40

a = 30

Solve for A..

  • tan^1(40/30)
  • Enter value into your calculator

== ~ 53.1° [we usually round to 1dp or one decimal place]
