Answer:

Explanation:

f(x) is your parent function or what your graph started out as.

g(x) is your transformation or how it ended up.

the graph g(x) went up 2 units

If you create a chart, you can choose any x-values unless they are given to you. Let's use: -2,-1,0,1,2

Plug in the x value from g(x) = |x|+2 ,and solve. For example, g(x) = |-2| +2 is 4 so 4 is your "y"-value (in this case your g(x)), if your x- value is -2.

so, you should get when you plug the other values.

(-2, 4)

(-1, 3)

(0, 2)

(1, 3)

(2, 4)

and that is what you graph.

For 18, you can create a chart the same way to find your points. However, it's important to know that since your function is inside of absolute value bars it is shifting left or right instead of up or down like with question 17, and it is opposite of what you think based on the sign.

Thus, g(x) = | x-1 | is shifting right 1 unit. Negative sign means it shifts right, Positive sign means it is shifting left.
