Multiply the coefficients by the power of x then reduce the power by 1
f(x)=4x^4 + x
4x^4 first we multiply the co efficient (4) by the power (4) 4x4=16
The new coefficient is 16, now reduce the power by 1 4-1=3
16x^3
Now with the x it has an ‘invisible’ power of 1
When you reduce this power it becomes to the power of 0 and anything to the 0 =1
So the x becomes 1
Now you have 16x^3 + 1
Now you use the notation f’(x) to show the derivative of x
Final answer:
f’(x)=16x^3 + 1
