Carlos goes out to lunch. The bill, before tax and tip, was $13.80. A sales tax of 3% was added on. Carlos tipped 23% on the amount after the sales tax was added. How much tip did he leave? Round to the nearest cent.

Answer:

$3.27

Explanation:

$13.80 x 1.03 (which will add the 3% to the total, skipping a step) = $14.21

Then take $14.21 x .0.23 which will give you just the tip amount of $3.2683 or rounded to the nearest cent, $3.27
