Value Added Tax (VAT)

15% VAT is payable on all goods and services, except for sanitary pads, fresh
produce and a few other staple food items. We will assume that 1.0% of goods
bought by this family, are non-VAT items.
The net salary of the Zulu household after all deductions (tax, home loan,
pension, medical, UIF etc), is R17 889 pm.
If they, on average, spend R14 850 of this on VAT items such as food, petrol,
clothing, cell phones, TV, entertainment etc, then;
2.1. calculate the tax amount they pay in the form of VAT.

If they have 14,850 of taxable expenses then we can do 14,850*.15 to get an answer of 2,227.50 of tax on that amount; the remaining 3,039 of their income taxed at the 1% rate would be taxed 30.39
