Why does atomic radius increase down a group (group 13)

Answer:

As we go down in groups in periodic table , number of shells increases than that in the previous group which tends to increase the size of atom eventually increasing the atomic radius.

For group 13:

Boron has 2 shells

Aluminum has 3 shells

Gallium has 4 shells

Indium has 5 shells and

Thallium has 6 shells.

Simple!

So the size goes on increasing down the group!
