Answer:

  • x = 2

=========================

Rewrite

  • (5x - 10)/(3x - 4) =
  • (6x - 8 - x - 2)/(3x - 4) =
  • 2 - (x + 2)/(3x - 4)

Substitute

  • 3^((x + 2)/(3x - 4)) = t

New equation

  • t - 2·9/t = 7
  • t - 18/t = 7
  • t² - 7t - 18 = 0
  • t² - 9t + 2t - 18 = 0
  • t(t - 9) + 2(t - 9) = 0
  • (t - 9)(t + 2) = 0
  • t - 9 = 0 and t + 2 = 0
  • t = 9 and t = - 2 (excluded as the power of 3 can't be negative)

Substitute back

  • 3^((x + 2)/(3x - 4)) = 9

  • 3^((x + 2)/(3x - 4)) = 3^2

  • (x + 2)/(3x - 4) = 2

  • x + 2 = 6x - 8

  • 6x - x = 2 + 8

  • 5x = 10

  • x = 2
