Lacey and Rita are adding books to their class libraries. Lacey’s classroom started out with 14 books and she plans to but 2 more books per week. Rita started out with 22 books, and she has enough money in her budget to purchase one book per week. At some point, the teacher’s will have the same amount of books. Answer:

in 8 weeks they will each have 30 books

Explanation:

Lacey: y = 2x + 14

Rita: y = x + 22

y = # weeks

x = # books

set equations equal to each other:

2x + 14 = x + 22

x + 14 = 22

x = 8

solve for 'y':

y = 8 + 22

y = 30
