Detective Schaunke gathered up Alex, Taylor, and Peyton yesterday, because one of them was suspected of having stolen Charlie's bicycle. The trio of suspects made the following statements during questioning: Alex: I'm innocent. Taylor: I'm innocent. Peyton: Taylor stole the bike. If only one of these statements is true, who stole the bike? How do you know?

I believe Taylor stole the bike because 1) he followed the exact response of the first person brave enough to answer and Peyton did not say he was innocent. He tried to comply with the police.

Explanation: the guilty party often at a loss for words to decriminalize himself will simply mimic another’s response. Taylor had the longest time to realize the severity of the crime and therefore told the Police the truth.. the words “ I’m innocent coming from boys is a little rare.. they would have blurted out, it wasn’t me..or I didn’t steal it.. to say I’m innocent, is a highly verbose word that one would use in a court of justice..
