Answer: Both p and q are 8cm long.

Explanation:

BE created a similar triangle that is exactly half of the larger triangle.

So if BE is 4 and AE is 8 then we know that CD is 8 and AD is 16.

However we only need segment q which is half of AD so the answer is:

p=8 and q=8
