Why:

To use the distributive property, you multiply all things within the parantheses by the -7 (in this case). To Multiply -p and -7, remember that a negative times a negative equals a positive, so it simply results in 7p. When you multiply -7 and 6, multiply them together and you get -42. You get
7p+-42, but that's not a fully simplified equation, so get rid of the addition symbol and make the 42 positive. This expression is now fully simplfied into
7p-42.

P.S. Never ever add a negative in an expression. Lots of teachers like to dock your points for doing it.
