What is an equation of the line that passes through the point (3,-1)(3,−1) and is parallel to the line 5x+3y=6

Answer: y=-5/3x+4

Explanation:

Since the line is parrallel that means that the gradient is the same

We can reorder 5x+3y=6 into 3y=-5x+6 but in order to find the gradient the number infront of y must be 1 so...

3y=-5x+6

y=-5/3x+2

Now we know that the gradient is -5/3

To find th y-intercept we just subsitute the points it passes through (3, -1) into the equation

y=-5/3x+c

-1=-5/3(3)+c

-1=-5+c

4=c
