Answer: 9 quarters, 7 dimes, & 16 nickels

Explanation:

We set number of dimes as d:

  • Number of quarters: d + 2
  • Number of nickels: d + 2 + d = 2d + 2

So, set up the equation to solve:

0.10d+0.25(d+2)+0.05(2d+2)=3.75\\\\0.10d+0.25d+0.5+0.1d+0.1=3.75\\\\0.45d=3.75-0.5-0.1=3.15\\\\d=7

So now that we know there're seven dimes, we can plug them in our initial equations to find the number of quarters and nickels:

  • Number of quarters: d + 2 = 7 + 2 = 9
  • Number of nickels: d + 2 + d = 2d + 2 = 2(7) + 2 = 16
