Giant pumpkins need a lot of water and sugar, and they need it fast. A giant pumpkin grows from seed to huge orange squash in only 120 to 160 days. At growth, it's putting on 33 pounds every day.

Large quantities of water, sugar and plentiful sunlight must be present to grow giant pumpkins. They do not get excessively tall but very wide because gravity holds them in place. Genetic alterations caused by selective culture are partly responsible for the evolution of enormous pumpkin size. By exchanging seeds and utilizing other age-old traditional breeding methods, pumpkin growers have steadily advanced these fruits for decades.
